KARACHI - Pakistani junior hockey players would befit from playing in the four nation Hamburg (Germany) hockey international which will be played from October 3-5, said former Olympian Jahangir Butt here Thursday. Butt, the junior hockey manager and chief coach, has been designated as manager of the Pakistan hockey team that will travel to Germany. He said there were 28 juniors and only nine seniors in the list of 37 players invited to attend a short training camp before a selected eighteen member team leaves here on September 30 for Germany. The three week long camp, he said, would properly start from Saturday morning. All the players have been advised to report at the HCP on Friday evening, he added. Jahangir said the experience of playing against senior teams of Germany, Belgium and Malaysia at Hamburg would do good to the juniors would had a bigger challenge before them in June of 2009 when they play in the junior world cup at Malaysia/Singapore. Seniors in near future had no engagements in immediate future. He hoped that the team picked for Hamburg would be a blend of some experience with big share of juniors. He said the trials to pick final eighteen for Germany would be held here at the HCP some time September 12/13. The PHF selection committee has selected the following 37 after national junior hockey championship at Lahore to attend the training camp.
