AHMEDABAD (PPI) - The Gujarat High Court on Friday ordered the state government to lift the ban on Jaswant Singhs book on Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, saying the ban curtails fundamental rights. The Gujarat government had banned the expelled BJP leaders book 'Jinnah India, Partition, Independence, contending that its contents tarnished Sardar Patels image. The government alleged it was an attempt to defame the image of the countrys first home minister Vallabhbhai Patel by questioning his patriotic spirit. Jaswant Singhs book questions role of Sardar Patel during the partition of India as well as his patriotic spirit. This is an attempt to tarnish the image of Patel who is considered the architect of modern united India, a statement issued by the state government had said. Jaswant had criticised the move, saying it amounted to 'banning thinking.
