ISLAMABAD - The teaching faculty of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) has demanded the appointment of new vice-chancellor at the right time as the tenure of Dr Muhammad Qasim Jan ends. The vice-chancellor Search Committee of Higher Education Commission is responsible to select and appoint a vice-chancellor at a university but no selection process has been initiated by the committee yet as a period of only one month has been left in the expiry of Dr Qasims term. The teaching faculty had also met Shehnaz Wazir Ali, former in charge HEC, who had assured them to appoint new vice-chancellor and agreed not to give extension to Dr Qasims tenure. In the first week of October the term of the present vice-chancellor would be ended. There are speculations that his term could be extended because so far, no advertisements have been placed in the press inviting new applications for the job as the selection process for the appointment of new VC is lengthy, a professor told TheNation. Majority of the faculty members here feel that he should not stay here any more as he has failed to resolve their problems for which they protested for nearly six weeks but their demands are still unheeded. It is very likely that the protest demonstration would start again by the professors and lecturers with the start of the classes, he added.
