Protest rallies against POL price-hike

LAHORE -Jamaat-e-Islami organised rallies and demonstrations across the country on Friday to protest against price hike, growing unemployment and the recent raise in the POL prices. Protest rallies and demonstrations were held after Friday prayers in the federal and the provincial capitals besides district and tehsil headquarters. JI central, provincial and local leaders led the rallies and addressed the demonstrators. JI secretary general Liaquat Baloch and district chief Ameerul Azeem lead the rally at Mansoora, Multan road. The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with writings against the government decision of raising POL prices, growing unemployment and hike in the prices of essential commodities. They chanted slogans against the rulers. The protest rally caused massive traffic jam at Multan Road. In Islamabad, JI district chief Syed Muhammad Bilal led the rally at Aabpara Chowk. In Rawalpindi, rally was staged from Liaquat Bagh to Press Club. JI deputy chief Dr Muhammad Kamal and district head Raja Abdul Waheed addressed the participants. In Faisalabad, the rally started from Al Markaz Islami and ended at Chowk Ghanta Ghar, under the leadership of JI deputy provincial chief Zafar Jamal Baloch and district chief Rai Muhammad Akram Kharl. In Multan, demonstration was held at Qadafi Chowk. Dr Hafeez Anwar and Kanwar Muhammad Siddique lead the protest demonstration. In Bahawalpur, rally started from Al-Huda Markaz and ended at Press Club. District chief Sheikh Abdul Waheed and city chief Malik Inam lead the rally. Rallies were also held in Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha, Okara, Kasur, Sahiwal, DG Khan and Minawali. In Karachi , demonstration was held at Farooq Azam Mosque, North Nazimabad. JI Karachi chief Muhammad Husain Mehnati addressed the participants. In Hyderabad, district chief Abdul Waheed Qureshi lead the rally. Rallies were also held in Larkana, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Thatha and Mirpur Khas. In the NWFP, the JI provincial chief Sirajul Haq addressed the rally in Dir. Demonstrations were also staged in Peshawar at Masjid Mahabat Khan and Yadgar Chowk. JI provincial secretary Shabbir Ahmed Khan lead the rally. Rallies were also held in Malakand, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsada. In Balochistan, protest demonstration was held outside Press Club Quetta. Provincial chief Abdul Haq Hashmi led the demonstration. Food Squad inspects restaurants Special food Squad, under the supervision of District Officer Food Dr Masood Ashraf, on Friday inspected hotels, restaurants and food outlets in Model town and Nishter Colony. The squad inspected kitchens of 30 food outlets, took 81 samples of food items and the same were sent to the laboratory for analysis.
