LAHORE - A constable was shot injured when heavy police contingents experienced a real police encounter at Lakhudeir Road near Ring Road in Manwan Police precincts late on Friday. As per details, seven dacoits equipped with sophisticated weapons had established a picket at the said road at about 8:00 pm on Friday and started looting the commuters. Meanwhile, a truck passed the road and the dacoit signalled him to stop. The driver instead to stop accelerated the truck and managed to flee from the spot. Police maintained an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) along with four policemen of Mohafiz Unit had established a police picket few yards away from Safiya Madarssa at Lakhudeir Road. Police team rushed to the spot when the driver informed them about the dacoits. Police officers also phoned SP Cantt Jawwad Qamar, who along with DSP Mian Riaz and SHO Manawan Naeem Anwar Bajwa, raced towards the spot. The dacoits after seeing the good number of policemen cordoned of the area, opened indiscriminate fire on them, which was retaliated. During this firing, one police constable namely Afzal suffered one bullet on his feet but the dacoits managed to flee from the crime scene. The injured police officer, however, was rushed to the Services Hospital where his condition was told stable till filing of this report. Manawan police have also registered an FIR against seven unidentified dacoits with no arrest so far. Further investigations are underway.
