LAHORE The Pakistan boxing team returned home from China after taking part in the Sports Accord Combat Games where they won a gold medal. Pakistans young and promising boxer Muhammad Waseem showed his talent and prowess to out punch his Dominican Republic opponent Dagoverto Agoero in the final and became the first ever Pakistani boxer to get gold medal in Sports Accord Combat Games in Beijing, China. General Secretary Pakistan Boxing Federation Mohammad Akram Khan and the other PBF officials gave warm welcome to the team on arrival at the Jinnah International Airport at Karachi. Muhammad Waseem won the final by 11-5 points after the final round. He won the first round by 4-0 in the second round he was at level terms 4-4 and he get the third round by 3-1 and final bout of 52kg weight category. Waseem expressed his success named to his flood affected Pakistani people. I also thank to the Pakistani nation who prayed for my success and Pakistan become the gold medallist country in Combat Games Boxing event, he said. President PBF Doda Khan Bhutto announced Rs 100,000 cash reward for Waseem. Waseem is a good boxer and his performance can help us in lifting boxing in Pakistan. We have good hopes from him in the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games which will be held this year in India and China, Doda Khan added. Five Pakistani boxers were took part in the Sports Accord Combat Games and four of them were Mohib Ullah, Amir Khan, Tariq Zia and Nisar Khan who lost in the quarter-finals with only Waseem wining the final.
