ISLAMABAD Some unidentified men kidnapped a working journalist late Friday night and tortured and humiliated him during six hours captivity. He said in his report submitted with the local police after release that he was picked up late Friday night by some unknown men in police uniform from sector I-8 and later was taken to some unknown place where they subjected him to severe torture. He said that the captors hanged him upside down and shaved off his head. The abductors warned him to stop writing against the present government. The journalist community has strongly condemned the attack on the journalist and termed it a crude attempt to browbeat the freedom of the journalists community. Meanwhile, PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani telephoned the journalist to express grief and sorrow over the unfortunate incident. The PM assured him that the matter would be thoroughly investigated to bring the culprits to book. He further apprised him that he had already issued orders for judicial inquiry. The Prime Minister during his telephonic conversation with the journalist said that PPP believed in the freedom of press and its leadership had given sacrifices for the independence of media. He further said that he himself had a journalistic background and strongly believed in the freedom of expressions. He further mentioned that he had personally called him to express solidarity with him and the journalists community. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister directed the Minister for Interior for thorough investigation into the matter by the concerned law enforcement agencies. He asked the Minister to submit a report to him at the earliest. The PM further ordered for holding of a judicial inquiry into the incident.
