‘Farkhand’s corruption destroying CDA’

ISLAMABAD - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has reached the verge of destruction due to incompetence and spendthrift of its Chairman, Farkhund Iqbal.
Sources in the CDA told this agency that financial matters of the authority were deteriorating due to corruption and negligence. Even the civic body is not able to pay pension to its retired officials and employees.
In this connection, the retired employees of the civic body staged protest demonstration in front of the office of the chairman of the CDA. The protesting retired employees said that they dedicated their whole lives for the department and now the civic body had no money to pay them their pensions.
They threatened to take strict action if the CDA failed to pay them their pension amount while the CDA chairman will be responsible for any such situation. On the other hand, the sources told that the chairman has appointed his many relatives on many important posts on very higher salaries and these appointments were made in the back dates.
Besides, the chairman CDA also obtains funds from the civic body even for his personal expenditures. The sources were of the view that this department will also be destroyed like Pakistan Railways if immediate attention is not given to redress these issues.
Iesco has disconnected CDA’s electricity connection twice due to corruption of Chairman CDA which badly affected the working in the many offices. However, special generators are being used to provide electricity for the office of Chairman CDA and it incurred expenditures worth of Rs 100,000 daily.
Reliable sources in Iesco informed that the electric supply company disconnected the electricity supply of the CDA twice in spite of all tall claims of the chairman CDA. Many offices of the civic body remained closed due to electricity suspension, which created immense problems for the citizens of Islamabad. They said the CDA has to pay 1.75 billion rupees dues to Wapda.
It is pertinent to mention here that Chairman CDA Farkhund Iqbal has repeatedly taken the credit of paying off the dues of CDA payable to Wapda but the reality is contrary to his claim and CDA has not still paid 1.75 billion dues to Wapda.
