Balochistan docs resume duties

QUETTA - Following the directives of Supreme Court (SC), the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan chapter has announced calling off strike across the province.
The apex court had given the protesting doctors 24-hour deadline to resume their duties at OPDs in the government-run hospitals.
Dr Shamsuddin and Dr Asharaf Achakzai represented the PMA Balochistan chapter before three-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdary at the Quetta Registry on Tuesday.
The doctors told the court that though senior psychiatrist Dr Ghulam Rasool was released, they continued with the strike to raise voice against their security and other problems.
The court directed Balochistan Home Secretary Nasebullah Bazai and Health Secretary Asmatullah Kakar to adopt adequate security measures and hold a meeting to fix other problems confronting the doctors and submit its report to Justice S Khwaja.
During the hearing, the chief justice remarked that the doctors should end their strike for humanitarian reasons. On the SC orders, they called off their protest.
