LAHORE – A police constable went on the rampage and opened straight fire on four members of a family including two women in Iqbal Town police area on Tuesday, police sources said.

Police said that Rahmat Ali, his wife, daughter, and a son sustained serious bullet injuries and were rushed to a local hospital in serious condition while the policeman managed to escape from the crime scene.

The injured family members told the police that one Sajjad, a constable at Nawan Kot police station, opened fire on them after a brief altercation. They further alleged that the policeman was eve-teasing the daughter of Rahmat Ali near to her residence in Bhekhaywal Pind when the family members intervened. They exchanged harsh words with the cop, who got infuriated and opened fire at them. The condition of the injured was reported to be out of danger at the hospital. No case was registered against the policeman till filing of this report.

Meanwhile, the policemen shot at and wounded two motorcyclists near Expo Center in Nawab Town police vicinity on Tuesday. The police shifted the injured to a local hospital for medical treatment and claimed that they were bandits. However, the police claim could not be verified from independent sources.

Police claimed that both the injured men were robbers as they confessed to no less than 26 incidents of robberies during preliminary investigation. According to the police, as the cops signalled the motorcyclists to stop at a picket near Expo Center, they opened fire on policemen, which triggered an encounter. Both the alleged bandits were arrested after the crossfire, in which no policeman was hurt.
