Counsel appeals for Sarabjit’s release





LAHORE - Indian spy Sarabjit Singh’s Counsel Awais Shaikh on Tuesday appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and others leaders to release the Indian prisoners including Sarbajit on humanitarian grounds.
Sarabjit Singh was awarded death sentence by Pakistani courts.
Addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club, Shaikh said that both the countries should release the prisoners specially the war prisoners. Moreover, he said that he would also meet with the Pakistani prisoners in India.
He said that the jail authorities had failed to provide quality food to his client. The government should ensure provision of visas to the family members of Singh, he demanded.
CS ordered to probe: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed the Punjab chief secretary to probe a map published in atlas book in which some territory of Pakistan had been shown as part of India.
Pakistan Social Justice party filed the petition and submitted that atlas book published a map in which Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir were shown as part of India by the publisher. It was a conspiracy against Pakistan and a step toward changing the minds of new generations. He maintained that the book was published with the help of German government. The act of publisher was completely against the integrity of the state, the petitioner added.
He pointed out that the book was being provided to elementary and high school libraries under the Punjab Schools Library Project, and this was part of conspiracy at international level. He requested the court for instruction for an inquiry into the matter. He also pleaded action against education department officials who were responsible for it.
Justice Shahid Waheed heard initial arguments and directed the chief secretary Punjab to probe the matter.
