KARACHI - Four people, including two policemen, were gunned down in separate incidents of target killing, while police claimed to have shot dead two outlaws in separate shootouts here on Thursday.

Pirabad police said that a 40-year-old cop namely Yousuf Khan was on his way to Saeedabad Police Training Centre when some gunmen targeted him at Sector 4, Orangi Town. The assailants managed to flee from the scene while the victim was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Yousuf, who hailed from Swat, was deployed at the security of Sunni Tehrik Chief Sarwat Ejaz Qadri. His body was handed over to his family after autopsy.

Similarly another policeman performing duty at Paposh Nagar Jeweller Market was attacked by some unidentified gunmen. He was hurried to hospital but he succumbed to injuries on the way. Police suspected that the cop was shot dead by the operatives of militant outfits.

In another incident of target killing, some gunmen ridding on a motorbike shot dead a 25-year-old youth namely Asghar Khan here in the remits of Orangi Town Police Station. The police said that Asghar was standing near to his residence when the assailant targeted him and managed to flee from the scene.

A Lyari gangster was shot dead by his rival group at Phol Patti Lane. The Baghdadi police said that 27-year- old Samad Baloch, brother of Mullah Latif associated with Uzair Jan Baloch Gang, was standing in the area when some gangsters affiliated with rival gang of Baba Ladla shot him multiple times. The assailants managed to flee while the body was handed over to his family without completing any legal formality.

Separately, the Maripur police claimed to have shot dead a notorious gangster in an alleged shootout. The police said that Abdul Rashid aka Gull Hassan was shot dead when they raided a hideout of the gangsters at Badni Goth. The police said the gangster offered stiff resistance and during exchange of fire, Rashid sustained bullet wounds and died on the spot. The police claimed Gull Hassan was involved in various criminal cases including murders, robberies, extortion and kidnapping for ransom, and the Sindh government had announced bounty of Rs0.5 million for his arrest. 

In another incident, the Sachal police claimed to have shot dead a target killer in an alleged shootout. Police said that Shafiullah, involved in the killing policeman Latufullah of Sohrab Goth Police Station, tried to runaway on seeing a police party busy in routine snap checking near Wakil Colony. The police team chased him and in exchange of fire, Shafiullah sustained bullet wounds and died on the way to hospital.

Meanwhile, bandits managed to rob Rs15.2 million and also shot dead a security guard here in the remits of Sher Shah Police Station. The police said that a cash-carrying van reached at a local bank branch at sector 5/B, SITE area when two out of the four security guards rushed inside the bank to collect cash. In the meantime, some gunmen men riding on two motorbikes reached closed to the van bearing registration number KH-9113 and shot one of the security guards namely Muhammad Khan while overpowered and disarmed his associate guard Rafiullah. The bandits managed to flee while taking away with the looted amount of Rs15.2 million.

Being informed, a police team rushed to the spot and shifted the wounded guard to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead and arrested his associate guard for initial questioning.

Talking to The Nation, DSP Qamar Zaman said that the security guards previously working with the same security company had carried out robbery in the past. He said that both the guards available in the van did not lock door of the van when their associate guards had rushed to the bank for collection.

One of the guards who offered resistance was shot dead while other guard Rafiullah surrendered or helped out the bandits because of their old association. He said that police had arrested Rafiullah and started investigation.
