All the district departments have devised their strategy to cope the ongoing spell of monsoon rains.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zahid Saleem Gondal said on Thursday that all the departments, especially the Wasa had been directed to keep its machinery and staff on red alert and ensure that all the arrangements were in place during monsoon. He said that the accumulation of rainwater was an issue of serious concern for him and therefore he got expedited work on sludge carriers. He said that the owners of all private residential colonies had been issued a directive to get NOCs from WASA and MDA after accomplishing work on their sewerage schemes before other development work otherwise their schemes would be sealed. Answering a question on Multan beautification project, he disclosed that work on demolition of old buildings in walled city and construction of new ones with the collaboration of Turkish government was underway. “Currently we’re working in Haram Gate, Pak Gate and Sarafa Bazaar areas and this project will be accomplished in phases,”“ he added.

Meanwhile, the DCO has issued order for launching of crackdown on commercial vehicles being run on LPG. The DCO has directed the Civil Defence department to check the gas kits of commercial vehicles and carry out action against LPG mafia. The Civil Defence officials carried out a raid in General Bus Stand area and impounded a vehicle being filled with LPG gas unlawfully.

An accused namely Sajjad was arrested and a case was registered by Seetal Mari police.
