Steps taken to improve Taxila waste management

Taxila-As many as six vehicles, including 3 mini dumpers, 2 garbage compactors and one suction truck, will improve the solid waste management system of Taxila city.

The vehicle induction ceremony was held here at Tehsil Court Complex which was attended by Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, Special Assistant to Federal Minister for interior Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Managing Director Solid Waste Management Irfan Qureshi, President PML-N Rawalpindi Sardar Mumtaz Khan, PML-N leader Sheikh Zeeshan Saeed and Assistant Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth.

While addressing to the participants, Sheikh Mohammad Aslam said that projects worth Rs 17 billion of health, education and infrastructure development are under way in tehsil Taxila for improvement of living standard of the masses of the area. He said that to improve the cleanliness and hygienic conditions in the city, as many as 6 new vehicles with an allocation of Rs 3.5 million are included.

Speaking on this occasion, PML-N leader Sheikh Zeeshan Saeed said that from health sector to civic sector, Federal Minister for Interior Ch Nisar Ali Khan is providing different facilities to the masses of the area to improve their living standard. He said that three mega projects including Wah General Hospital and two schools, one each for girls and boys, would play pivotal role in betterment of the masses.  

Managing Director Solid Waste Management Irfan Qureshi said that with the induction of these state-of-the-art vehicles, the solid waste management of the city would improve.

He said company daily collects 40 tons of garbage from the city. He said that mini dumpers would provide services in narrow streets while sucking machines would collect garbage from gutters and covered drains. He said as many as 125 garbage containers would also be placed in different hook and corner of the city so that waste deposal system would be improved.

The MD informed that the leaves of the staff have been cancelled and all sanitary workers and officials of the department to ensure cleanliness during the Eid days. He said banners would be displayed at all main points of the city to create awareness among masses about the cleanliness campaign. The residents have been asked to contact on helpline 1139 for any complaint, Qureshi said.
