LAHORE - The Pakistan senior hockey team lost its opener of the Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament to hosts Malaysia 3-2 in a game of fluctuating fortunes on Sunday in Ipoh, Malaysia. Malaysian went into attack right from the start and within the eighth minute of the game to lead the match against greenshirts. Shakeel Abbasi brought Pakistan back in the hunt with a beautiful field goal. Then just before the breather, Malaysia's Mohammed Sheron provided lead to his team in the 28th minute and Pakistan was one goal down in the second half. Azlan of the host extended the lead for Malaysia. But the Pakistan team despite several attempts, some of them quite close, failed to surpass the lead taken by Malaysia. However, in the process they did get a goal just two minutes before the close of play when forward Abbas Haider came into to action and managed to push the ball home thus giving 3-2 win to Malaysia. Earlier, India and Egypt played a surprising two-all draw. Pakistan will play its second match of the tournament today against title favourite New Zealand.
