LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting here on Sunday in which important decisions regarding purchase of wheat in the province, food support programme and Sasti Roti Scheme were taken. According to these decisions, cash payment will be made to the farmers for 100 bags wheat instead of 50 bags from this year. Food support programme will be streamlined to serve the deserving people. It was decided in the meeting that scheme will be made a public movement for provision of sasti roti to the poor and organisations of civil society, kind-hearted people and public service spirited segments of the society would be included in this scheme. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said the interests of small farmers would be given preference by the government during procurement of wheat and the returns of their hard work would not be allowed to go to the middle man. He said that government had fixed price of what at Rs 950 per 40kg for the betterment of the farmers and would ensure that this money reach the farmers. He said if any negligence was found stern action would be taken against the DCO of the district and concerned Commissioner would also be held responsible. The chief minister announced setting up of a complaint cell at provincial level in addition to districts for redressal of complaints of the farmers. He said a comprehensive system of monitoring should be evolved for making procurement system foolproof and all provincial ministers, secretaries and heads of the departments should be assigned responsibilities of various districts for achieving this objective. Similarly, cabinet committee constituted for this purpose will hold its meeting on daily basis during the what procurement. Shahbaz said he would himself visit Punjab to personally supervise the wheat procurement. Expressing his views about Sasti Roti Scheme, chief minister said that no government could fulfill its national and collective responsibility without utilising resources on the welfare of the poor people. He said that now the time has come that the efforts should be made to stop the unjust distribution of resources. Therefore, for the first time in 62-year history of Pakistan, the government of PML-N under the leadership of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has taken a historical step in the form of Sasti Roti Scheme. He said we want to make this movement a national and public drive. He directed that only those tandoors should be selected for provision of atta quota, which are located in the poorest localities. He said the purpose of these tandoors is to provide sasti roti to those people who are deprived of basic necessities of life instead of rich people. chief minister ordered constitution of a high-level committee for the supervision and improvement of this scheme. The meeting was unanimous that katchi abadies, canteens of hospitals, industrial units, railway stations, bus stands and backward areas would be given preference for setting up new tandoors. Senior Advisor to CM, Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Provincial Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran, Provincial Minister Ahmad Ali Aulakh, MNAs, MPAs, Chairmen Task Forces, SA Hameed and Samiullah Chahudhry, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Home, Secretary Food, Secretary Industries, Secretary Agriculture, Secretary Finance, Secretary Information, All Divisional Commissioners, Post Master General, Additional IG Special Branch, DCO Lahore and Director Food besides concerned senior officers attended the meeting.
