KARACHI Karachi Reds caused an upset by defeating Star Studded Karachi Whites by eight Wickets in the second semi-final of 12th National Seniors cricket Cup southern zone (twelve a side match) played at the UBL Sports Complex here the other day. Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association is the host of the event. Karachi Whites after winning the toss elected to bat and scored 151 runs in the stipulated 25 overs. Riaz Sheikh scored 44 runs in 31 balls with 2 Sixes and 2 Fours. Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry scored 24 runs in 19 balls and Iqbal Imam scored 21 balls in 39 balls. For Karachi Reds Left Arm Leg Spinner Zahid Ahmed took 4 Wickets for 29 runs and Yahya Toor 2 Wickets for 27 runs. Successfully chasing the target Karachi Reds reached 152 for the loss of three wickets in 20.5 overs. Opening Batsman Nadeem Sheikh scored match winning innings of unbeaten 79 runs in 57 balls. His innings included 2 Sixes and 10 fours. Mehmood Hamid scored 30 in 33 balls with 3 fours and skipper Asim Jah scored 26 runs in 28 balls with 1 Six and 2 fours. For Karachi Whites Riaz Shaikh, Jaffer Qureshi and Iqbal Imam took 1 wicket each for 27.32 and 38 runs respectively. Nadeem Sheikh received the winning prize of Man of the Match by the Chief Guest Former Test Player Tauseef Ahmed. Karachi Reds will meet Karachi Yellows in the Southern Regional final on Sunday April 11 at the UBL sports Complex. The winner of Southern Zone will clash with winner of Northern Region final on April 18 at Diamond Cricket Stadium Islamabad.
