LAHORE - Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan has termed President Zardaris address to the parliament as aimless rhetoric and hollow claims. In a statement issued here on Monday, he said that the President was unable to mention any major achievement of his government that could satisfy the masses. Munawar Hassan said the President referred to the price hike and the problems facing the people but did not talk of any relief for them. The President expressed his resolve not to allow the countrys land to be used for terrorism but failed to present a solution for ending the US terrorism and drone attacks that were causing large-scale killings of innocent Pakistanis. The President claimed of giving the rights to the masses for the first time in countrys history but did not present a justification for load shedding, monthly raise in POL and electricity tariff nor did he give any line of action for improving law and order. On the other hand, the President pleaded well for the Rental Power projects, which the outgoing Finance Minister had declared as impracticable and highly costly, and had even resigned on that account. The President also failed to explain why Irans offer for cheap electric supply was not accepted or deliberate delay in payments to the IPPs. He asked that if a president who had failed to unearth the killers of his wife during two-year s in power, could provide security to the citizens. Commenting on the address, JI Secretary General Liaquat Baloch said that the Presidents address was a continuity of the democratic process. He expressed the hope that the President would not repeat his past mistakes. He further said that the political parties would have to behave in true democratic spirit for the supremacy of democracy and strengthening of institutions.
