'President's address removed misconceptions'

LAHORE PPP leaders have hailed the presidential address to the joint sitting as one removing all misperceptions about his government. His address was a clear expression of his commitment with democracy, public service and to make the country progressive, developed and thriving state on the globe, they said. Provincial Minister Farooq Yousaf Ghurki said President Zardaris address to the joint sitting of parliament has removed all misconceptions about the PPP-led coalition government. He said passage of NFC Award, construction of 32 dams to bridge power demand and supply gap, giving proper name to the NWFP (Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa), effective offensive against menace of terrorism, ensuring provision of internal autonomy to Gilgit-Baltistan and Aghaz-e-Haqooq-Balochistan Package etc indeed are the fruits of the present democratic government. He termed the Presidents speech as comprehensive and balanced, in which he also elaborated history of constitutional violations and the reforms initiated by the present democratic government for restoration of the 1973 constitution in its original shape. He also hailed the role of other parliamentary parties in fulfilling the major government tasks of poverty reduction, NFC, women protection bill, constitutional reforms, ending power crises, war on terror and many other challenges. Neelam Jabbar Chaudhary commenting the presidential address said governments achievements would prove to be a catalyst for the development process in the country. She said PPP was the symbol of federation and it had always strived to ensure equal rights to all segments of the society throughout the country. The passage of women protection bill, Benazir Income Support Programme, autonomy to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and many other steps in the vast interest of the public were the clear manifestation of the PPP resolve and commitment towards Pakistan and its people, she added. She said present PPP-led coalition government was working for the deprived and neglected parts of country, adding that PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed and his brave daughter Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had always laid great emphasis on the development of backward areas.
