LAHORE - Terming President Zardaris address to the joint session of the parliament as a mere gimmickry of words, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan said that the President did touch the initiatives taken by his Government during the past couple of years and mentioned only problems faced by the masses without offering any solution. In a statement issued here on Monday, he said that all the accomplishments enunciated by Zardari have only served the interests of elite that has been fleecing the hapless masses with impunity. The much trumpeted Benazir Income Support Programme is only a stunt as the poor have no access to its forms. The Presidents speech contained no reference towards good governance, without which no justice can be meted out to the public. Water dispute among federating units was also not resolved, Imran Khan said. Other PTI leaders including Arif Alvi, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema and Saifullah Niazi termed President Zardaris address as an exercise of mass deception. They said the President did not present any solution to the challenges faced by the nation and was only aimed at self-congratulation. While President Zardari showered praise on his Government, the hapless nation was wracked by rampant corruption, spiraling inflation, unemployment and poverty, they said. They said that the Government has only added to the public woes and caused disillusionment among the nation. Meanwhile, PTI leadership has condemned the series of devastating bomb blasts in Peshawar and expressed profound grief over the loss of precious lives and widespread destruction. In a joint statement, the party leaders expressed solidarity with the bereaved and affected families and demanded of the Government to ensure safety of public life and property.
