PESHAWAR - The militancy- affected tribesmen of Khyber Agency on Friday demanded the resumption of registration process of the internally displaced families from Tirah Valley and provision of food assistance and other basic amenities at makeshift camps.

The tribesmen led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Khyber Agency President Iqbal Afridi while addressing at a press conference here also warned to hold a long-march towards Islamabad in protest if their demands were not fulfilled.

He said that a large number of tribal families were displaced from Tirah Valley due to the ongoing military action in the area.

Afridi said that the authorities concerned had yet to re-start registration of war-affected tribal people of the Khyber Agency.

Flanked by tribal elders Mina Butt, Yarmat Shah, Kashmir Khan, Saeed Khan, and the affected people, Afridi asked the govt to take effective steps to mitigate sufferings of more than 50,000 displaced families from Maiden and surrounding areas.

These tribal people have been facing numerous difficulties for the last one decade and still they were compelled on taking refuge in temporary camps, they lamented.

“The patriotism of the tribal people shouldn’t be doubted, as they have rendered sacrifices to safeguard frontiers of the motherland,” the PTI leader said.

He said the government was failed to take any step to redress the problems being faced by the displaced families and were still living in the temporary shelters. Afridi asked the authorities concerned to stop nepotism and favouritism in registration of the displaced people and demanded the government to immediately re-start registration process of the IDPs and ensure proper shelter facilities and other basic facilities.
