FAISALABAD  - As many as 4 million metric tone wheat would be purchased throughout the Punjab by the Food Department during wheat procurement campaign 2013-14 and target has been fixed to procure wheat of 0.495 million metric tonne from the four districts of Faisalabad Division, disclosed a meeting.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Dr Ajaz Munir at his office. Giving briefing about the wheat procurement policy, Director Food Punjab Capt (r) Usman Younis said that all the arrangements would be made at the wheat procurement centres and issuance of gunny bags would start on April 15.

However, he noted that wheat purchase would start on April 20 at the rate of Rs.1200 per 40 kg. He said that the under growers-friendly policy, the delivery charges at the rate of Rs7.50 per 100 kg wheat in addition to wheat price would be paid to the farmers through purchase bills.

He explained that the fair average quality wheat would be purchased with maximum moisture contents of 10% and middle man would not be allowed to sell wheat to Food Department. The director maintained that three tiers committees would be notified by the respective DCOs, tehsil and central level to monitor and coordinate the arrangements and redressal of any issue.

He said that three training sessions of the centres coordinators had been conducted by the DFC/Deputy Director Food concerned for ensuring the fair and smooth wheat procurement campaign.

He said that gunny bags would be distributed till May 30 and filled with wheat would be received up to 7th of June, 2013 and each and every grain would be purchased from the growers.

He said that complaint cells would be set up at each purchase centre besides designation of tall free number at provincial level to attend any complaint from the farmers. The director said that timing of the purchase centres has been fixed from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm which would operational without any holiday.

Reviewing the arrangements of wheat procurement drive in Faisalabad Division, he said that the wheat growers should be facilitated during the wheat procurement campaign.

He urged that fair and transparent distribution of Bardana and presence of revenue staff for the help of farmers should be ensured.

He said that comprehensive strategy should be implemented to avoid long queues at the purchase centres. The DCOs of Faisalabad, TT Singh, Jhang and Chiniot informed the meeting that action plan for the wheat procurement campaign had been chalked out under which the staff of District Revenue Department had been sensitised for the wheat procurement duties besides completing the other relevant arrangements in the district.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Director Food Anjum Sardar, Assistant Director Khalid Mehmud, DFCs Amanullah, Abdul Ghafoor, Fiaz Hussain and Ameer Ali Monga.
