OKARA - The District Police claimed to have unearthed wine distilleries and seized hundreds of litres liquor besides arresting five accused from various parts of the district. On directives of DPO Dr Haider Ashraf, the police tightened noose around vintners and launched a crackdown on them. Reportedly, the police arrested accused Imran with 100 litres of liquor during a raid in village 2/D, while his three accomplices Madad Ali, Khan, and Azhar Ali managed to escape.

From the adjoining village 46/D, the police arrested accused Yasin with 15 litres of liquor.

In a separate raid conducted in village 45/D, the police unearthed a running distillery and seized 30 litres of liquor while the accused couple Abbas and Kalsoom Bibi managed to escape. Similarly, the police carried out a raid in village 46/D and arrested Mohammad Amin with 12 litres of liquor.  In another raid in village 46/D, the police unearthed two mini distilleries and arrested Jaffer and Zaman with nine litres of liquor and 20 litre respectively.  Similarly in a raid in Christian Colony, the police seized 50 litres of wine while accused Nadeem managed to escape.

The police have registered separate cases.
