RAWALPINDI - No mercy for the candidates as the Returning Officers (ROs) of different constituencies on Friday turned down the nomination forms of two aspirants of general elections for Provincial Assembly seats whereas objections were also raised on the nomination papers of many politicians.

These politicians included PML-N stalwart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan contesting elections for NA-52, Sardar Naseem, Hanif Abbasi for NA-56, PPP Zamurad Khan for NA-54, Ghulam Murtaza Satti and PTI Chief Imran Khan filed papers for NA-56.

The ROs, during ruthless scrutiny, have rejected the nomination papers of MQM Syed Ijaz Hussain and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Abdul Majeed Hazarvi for not having the signatures of proposers and seconders.

A total of 64 nomination papers were scrutinized for 5 seats and 24 for Provincial Assemblies to contest elections 2013 for 12 seats of Provincial Assembly. While candidates aspiring to test their fate for two PP seats also withdrew their nomination papers.

Allegations were also raised over the nomination papers of Nisar Ali Khan for concealing facts about his property, submitting doubtful certificates and showing low cost of his property.

A citizen Khuram Munir Malik filed objections to the nomination papers of former Leader of the Opposition and N League big wig Chauhdry Nisar Ali Khan.

The petitioner submitted an application with RO and District and Session Judge Yar Muhammad Gondal in which he stated that Ch had filed suspected educational credentials.

Imran Mumtaz Malik, the lawyer of Munir, apprised the RO the candidate provided provincial certificates. “The candidate tendered photocopy of a certificate of Army Burn Hall College bearing no monogram of the college. The candidate yet to produce original certificates of the college,” he added.

He said that Khan provided provisional certificates of Atchison College Lahore without mentioning whether he had passed examination or not.

Besides, the candidate did not present the value cost of his vehicles, sources of income and the jewellery weight and description was not disclosed. Nisar showed less cost value of his five kanals house in Faizabad. He also told less value of his 684 kanal agricultural lands was only Rs 0.6 million, concealed the cost details of his foreign tours and no details of his flats in different cities, farm house and shares in mills, the counsel added.

The RO deferred the case till today.

Similarly, PTI’s Faiz-ul-Hassan Chohan made objection to the nominations of PML-N Muhammad Hanif Abbasi that he (Abbasi) failed to provide the details of his income and expenditures as well as his assets. The RO postponed the scrutiny of Abbasi’s nominations till today. The decision of Awami Muslim League President Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and N League Sardar Naseem was also postponed till Saturday as objections were made that the both provided incorrect details of their accounts and assets.

A lawyer Mubarik Hussain objected on nominations of PPP Zamrud Khan that he served Managing Director (MD) Pakistan Baitul Mal and it was government job. “Being a government official, he has to come in to politics after two years so his nomination papers will be rejected,” he maintained.  An interesting argument occurred between Raja Shujah-ur-Rehman, the lawyers of Hafeez Abbasi who raised objection on PTI’s Imran Khan papers, and Khan’s lawyer Malik Aitsham. Both gave tough time to each other.

Muhammad Hafeez, a voter from NA-65, termed Imran Khan a gambler, liar and adulterer and requested the RO and District and Sessions Judge Naeem Arshad to reject his papers.

Council of the petitioner Raja Shujaur Rahman said that Khan was father of Tyrian White, daughter of Sita White. He said that Khan did not challenge the allegation when raised at various forums.

He said that Imran Khan and his former wife Jamaima Khan supported Caroline White, the maternal aunt of Tyrian, when she filed an appeal at a court in Los Angeles for the custody of her niece.

He added that there was also a declaration in which the PTI head stated that he has no objection over giving Tyrian’s custody to Caroline.

The council also said that Imran Khan in his book “Main or Maira Pakistan” claimed that he was gambler. However, the Council, representing Imran Khan, Malik Ihtisham, said that Imran was not a gambler but once gave a tip to his brother-in-law, rejecting the rest of allegations as baseless.

The RO asked Raja Shujah to produce attested documents of the case saying, “You have downloaded it from internet.”

The council replied if he was liar then Imran Khan should come and reject the allegation and sue me. However, the case was expected to be decided Saturday (today).
