ISLAMABAD– Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 150 cases whereas 232 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday to Friday.

The backlog in the apex Court on March 29 was 18841 cases, as 232 new cases were instituted during the period from Saturday March 30 to Friday April 5, the progressive total of pending cases on April 5 came to 19073 cases. Out of these, 150 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday to Friday and the backlog remains of 18923 cases.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and at Branch Registry Lahore to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog. The CJ and other Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog.
