ISLAMABAD - Olympian Shahnaz Shaikh on Friday said the laying down of astro-turf at Shahnaz Shaikh Hockey Stadium, Municipal High School would start soon as all the paper work and other minor issues had been resolved.

Talking with The Nation on Friday, Shahnaz said: “I have detailed meeting with DCO Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar in which DSO Manzar Shah was also present. Inter Provincial Coordination has written a letter to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) in which they have asked the hockey federation to recommend cities where the astro-turf should be laid down.

“PHF is willing to also lay down an astro-turf in Rawalpindi, as the turf in Shahnaz Shaikh Stadium will be laid down by provincial government, so the federal government will install turf in Rawalpindi Cantt,” he added.

“We have contacted Station Commander Brig Nasrullah Kiyani to acquire land for District Hockey Association (DHA) to construct a hockey stadium in this regard. He has assured his all-out support in this regard and the search for suitable peace of land has already been started,” Shahnaz concluded.
