ISLAMABAD - KPK Governor Engineer Shaukatullah has said he is giving top priority to lift sports standard and provide maximum facilities to the players of Fata and Khyber Agency .
Talking to The Nation, Eng Shaukat, who is also FATA Olympic Association president, said: “We have already established a world class sports hall in Bajaur Agency, where players have been enjoying facilities at their door steps. They are being provided with best available coaches, infrastructure and conducive environment, where they feel home like conditions.”
“I am trying hard to construct similar kind of sporting infrastructure at Jamrood, Khyber Agency . I want to give youth a world class stadium in Khyber Agency , where not only national but also international events may be conducted in near future. The youth of the area is very talented and they deserve a quality stadium, where they may further enhance their abilities under the watchful eyes of experienced coaches and earn name for the area and country,” he added.
He further said: “We are facing acute shortage of funds and I have discussed the idea with federal government and also trying to attract sponsors to construct international standard stadium. I visited different localities in this regard and Fata Olympic Association secretary Shahid Shinwari is also taking keen interest and made several visits to different areas of Fata for this purpose.”
“Not only males but females are also taking keen interest in different sports . Parents have willingly sent their daughters to participate in different events. Fata Olympic Association has sponsored a Fata girl for taking part in paragliding and climbing competitions at Singapore, where she not only participated but also showed encouraging results,” he asserted.
“We have established different camps of Fata players both for males and females at Peshawar and also at Islamabad. We will continue to conduct more such camps in future too and provide maximum opportunities to the youth of Fata . It is my firm belief that Fata possesses immense amount of talent but the only need of the hour is to provide them with best facilities,” he added.  “It is the need of the hour to engage youth of my area to healthy sporting activities to prevent them falling into the hands of anti-social elements. This youth is future of the country and they are more than capable of winning laurels for the country at any given stage. My services are also available for the promotion of sports and I will try my best to fulfill my commitments,” Shaukatullah concluded.
