LAHORE - After having been caused restlessness in Multan for a couple of month, the menace of swine flu (H1N1) has reached Lahore. The Punjab Health Department confirmed two deaths on Saturday.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of death of two citizens in Lahore and sought a report from his adviser on health. He directed adopting precautionary measures to control swine flu.
Rubina, 55, a resident of Daroghawala, died at Services Hospital on March 30 and her blood sample was sent to National Institute of Health. Shaukat Ali died at Ittefaq Hospital after remaining under treatment for few days. NIH on Saturday confirmed that both the patients were positive for H1N1 (Swine Flu). Additional Director General Vector Borne Diseases Dr Jaffar Ilyas said that one patient died in Lahore due to swine flu. He said that so far swine flu has taken five lives in the province. He said that 50 suspected patients were brought to hospitals in the province and out of these 23 were tested positive for swine flu. He said that the medicines had been supplied for treatment and the doctors were issued strict direction to adopt all preventive measures while attending patients.
Committee formed: Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute Prof Anjum Habib Vohra has constituted a committee headed by Prof Tariq Feroz Khawaja to finalise arrangements for holding First Alumni Conference in the third week of April to mark 40th foundation day of the institution.
The committee included Prof Gias-un-Nabi Tayab, Prof Ahmad Sulman Waris, Prof Ihtisham-ud-Din Qureshi, Prof Sadia Chiragh, Prof Muneeza Saeed and Prof Fouzia Farzana.  All the old students of the Institute would be invited in the conference.
Prof Anjum Habib said that issues like various diseases and their treatment and role of PGMI in medical education would be discussed in the conference. He said that PGMI and Lahore General Hospital played leading role during drive against dengue extending full support to the Punjab Health Department and other medical institutions in the struggle to curb the menace.
He said that establishment of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College has given a new distinction and importance to the role of PGMI.
