HAFIZABAD - Hundreds of powerloom factories have been closed down, rendering thousands of workers engaged with this small industry jobless due to unrealistic and anti-worker policies of the government, said Small Powerloom Factories Association president Mian Muhammad Yousaf Tihami.

He claimed that this small industry earned billion of rupees as foreign exchange but wrong policies of the government had pushed the industry to verge of liquidation and the poor workers to starvation.

He said that the majority of workers depended on this small industry as well as rice trade but both these industries were facing crises mainly due to wrong policies and prolonged loadshedding. He demanded formulation of realistic policies to save thousands of workers and owners from the looming starvation.
