Special teams of Health Department sealed 16 medical stores and clinics in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils for selling expired medicines and using veterinary medicines on human beings, a health officer said.

EDO (Health) Javaid Warraich said that the cases have been registered against the accused owners of these sealed medical stores and clinics as well.

Later, District Drugs Taskforce directed the officers concerned to immediately take action against quacks, medical stores and clinics found selling expired and banned medicines and those using animal medicines on human beings.

A meeting was held and attended by Taskforce Chairman Tariq Akhtar Subhani, DCO Dr Asif Tufail, ADCG Umer Sher Chatta, EDO (Health) Javaid Warraich, Kh Muhammad Safdar Medical College (KMSMC) Principal Zafar Ali Chaudhary and drugs inspectors.

Subhani directed the officials that all the responsible and guilty people be brought to task. He also asked to seek active cooperation of media and police to curb the menace of the quackery. He asked the officials to deal with the drug mafia sternly as they were the enemy and killers of humanity.

Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a human trafficker namely Asim Ali Ghuman in Daska city. The FIA Gujranwala Division deputy director said that a team raided and arrested the accused. He said that he was running the black business of sending people abroad especially to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after extorting big amounts.

He added that the FIA has also recovered five passports, fake visas and official documents of different embassies and fake stamps from the accused. He said that the FIA has sent the accused behind bars after registering a case.
