rawalpindi - Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that the government has decided to register cases against public representatives and government officers, besides National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) officials, to stop issuance of fake computerised national identity cards (CNICs).

“The government has not only blocked more than 100,000 fake CNICs of Pakistani nationals but also cancelled thousands of bogus NADRA CNICs of Afghan nationals,” the mister said. He added that as many as 200 NADRA officials have been shown the door on account of issuing fake CNICs after entering wrong data and now they are languishing in jails. Similarly, the court of laws had also issued arrested warrants for those who attested the registration forms of NADRA, he said.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan expressed these views while talking to media persons after inaugurating NADRA Service Centre and Executive Passport Office here at Rehmanabad yesterday.

He was flanked by Chairman NADRA Usman Y Mubin, ex-MNAs Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and Malik Shakil Awan, and other high-ups of NADRA and district government.

Talking to media persons, the interior minister said that the government has adopted zero tolerance policy against those who are involved in issuance of bogus NADRA CNICs to the citizens as well as Afghan nationals. He added that NADRA would generate revenue of Rs 2200 million in the current year in connection with passport and CNIC fee that would be spent on upgrading the NADRA services centres.

“Every Pakistani citizen is VIP for us and the government is trying its level best to provide world level facilities to the citizens coming to these centres,” Nisar said. He informed that another one-window operation centre would start functioning in Islamabad from the next month. He said that the government would soon introduce online passport renewal system in Pakistan to facilitate the passport holders.

Replying to questions of journalists, Chaudhry Nisar said that the issue of Panama Leaks was not an issue that could be left for media trial.

He said that he was committed to root out the menace of corruption from the country. “I will not tolerate the corrupt and black sheep in any department of the country,” he said.

Tight security arrangements were made on the occasion.
