ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has given approval to promote thirteen retired officers from grade-21 to grade-22 after 18 years of their retirement, The Nation has learnt.

According to documents available with The Nation bearing reference letter no 151/PSM/16 dated 14-03-2016, the Prime Minister has been pleased to approve grant of pay and allowances of grade-22 through promotion to 13 officers from the dates of their retirement.

The PM asked the Establishment Division to consider the promotion of thirteen retired officers from recommended dates including Abdul Ghafoor Mirza, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Iqbal Khan and Sharif Ejaz Ghouri on 4-02-1997, Saleem Maqsood, Iqbal Ahmad, Muhammad Sami Ullah, Syed Zafar Ali Naqvi and Shiekh Muhammad Saleem on 13-11-1998, S Farough Naseem on 17-02-1995, Kamran Zafar on 15-05-2000, Iftikhar Ahmad on 16-08-2004 and Syed Yasin Ahmad on 04-05-2005. Talking to The Nation, a senior official of Establishment Division confirmed that the PM office sent the list of thirteen officers and bound the division to facilitate the retired officers with abovementioned dates. He said that PM considered their cases under the services rule of Fundamental (R) 17.

He said these officers were not promoted at the time of their promotion due to some reasons and they went to court for their right. The courts sent back the cases to Establishment Division and asked the government to review the cases again. He said that following the rule F(R)17, the Establishment Division sent their cases to scrutiny committee of Finance Division which is working under the chair of secretary finance. After the scrutiny process, the secretary finance recommended the cases of officers to the PM for considering their promotion on merit, he added. He said that after the formal approval of the PM, the government will give pay allowances to thirteen officers from considered dates.
