Mills supplying low quantity of flour to Ramazan bazaars

OUR STAFF REPORTER SIALKOT - The mills are allegedly supplying flour bags containing less quantity than mentioned on them to the Sasta Ramazan bazaars in the district. All the four such bazaars were set up in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils to provide maximum relief to common man by ensuring the quality and standard daily used commodities on subsidized rates during the holy month. A special checking team led by the district food controller inspected the flour bags being supplied to there. The flour bags contained almost half -kg less flour that prescribed on the flour bags. The teams collected the several samples of flour and recommended strict legal action against the flour mills involved this practice. However, the Food Department has yet sold out as many as 87,322 bags of flour at subsidized rates at 50 Sasta Ramazan Bazaars established by the provincial government in Gujranwala Divisions all the six Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts for providing the maximum financial relief to the people during the holy month. Gujranwala Division Deputy Director Food Naveed Ashraf disclosed this while talking to the newsmen here on Friday. He said that the Food Department has also supplied as many as 0.3 million bags of flour to the open markets for selling to the common man on subsidized rates. He said that the huge bulk of flour was available in Sasta Ramazan bazaars and open markets and there was no question of shortage of atta in the region. However, the weight, quality and standard of these flour bags was also being assured by the special checking teams, in this regard. MEAL CLAIMS TWO LIVES: Local trader Tariq Mehmoods two minor daughters Aleesha (8) and Amina (2) died after eating poisonous meal after Iftar in citys Tiba-Naikapura locality here. Reportedly, the deceased sisters started vomiting soon after eating the meal. They were rushed to DHQ Hospital where they expired before any medication.
