ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari Sunday directed that no slackness on addressing the energy issues would be tolerated, as the power issue has become the foremost and the most critical issue. The President issued these directives while co-chairing a meeting with Prime Minister Raja Pervaz Ashraf to review latest energy situation in the country.

Those who were present during the meeting included Minister for Water & Power Ch Ahmed Mukhtar, Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Sheikh, Secretary General M Salman Faruqui, Advisor to PM on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain, Secretary to the President Malik Asif Hayat and other concerned senior officials. Aseefa Bhutto was also present during the meeting.

Ch Ahmed Mukhtar briefed the meeting about the latest power situation in the country. He said that all the high voltage power pylons in Muzzaffargarh have been re-erected and the power disrupted due to their damage has been added to the national grid. The minister informed the meeting  that the power situation was steadily improving and expressed the hope that with the rising water levels in reservoirs, the situation with regards to power generation will further improve. Dr Asim Hussain informed the meeting about the availability of gas and fuel for the power generation.
