SHANGLA - The Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) is planning to shelve the project of billions of rupees of Thakkot-Daso road construction, which was approved with the cooperation of Islamic Development Bank in 2005.

The ERRA in collaboration with Islamic Development Bank has approved to construct a 96-kilometre long Thakot-Daso road, an alternate of Shahrah-e-Karakoram in 2005. According to the plan, the road was to be constructed on the other side of the Indus River. The tender of the said road was announced six months before.

Sources said that the road was to be constructed with the cost of billions of rupees fund, but the unnecessary interruption of the provincial government and pressurising of ERRA, the organisation is now considering to shelve the project.

Member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from Kohistan, Abdul Sitar Khan told media persons that if the government snatched the rights of Kohistan’s people, they would stage a protest demonstration against it. He warned if works on Thakot-Daso road was not initiated, then they were ready for a sit-in at Shahrah-e-Karakoram.

He revealed that Shahrah-e-Resham has been ruined and needs construction. He alleged that the government was using delay tactics in the new construction projects in the area. He said the people would no longer bear the act of cruelty of the governments and the authorities.
