ISLAMABAD – Finance Ministry has apologized to Railway Ministry for not releasing Rs 6billion for the repair and maintenance of faulty railway engines.

Sources said that Railway decided to give some relief to the ill-fated passengers by repairing and maintenance of faulty engines but in vain as Finance Ministry has decided not to release the said funds in this regard. It has been told that Railway decided to take loan from National Bank and then return the amount in installments.

Pakistan Railways has expressed its reservations on not getting the funds by Ministry of Finance through a banking consortium as 96 railway engines are in sorry condition and now due to lack of funds more engines will deteriorate, sources added.
