DHAKA - The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh Afrasiab the other day addressed senior military and civil officers of Bangladesh at the National Defence College (NDC), Dhaka, on Pakistan’s foreign policy, according to xa press release issued on Sunday.
Emphasising that Pakistan values its relations with Bangladesh, the High Commissioner stated that the relations between the two countries are based on mutual interest, mutual respect and common religion. He added that Pakistan looks forward to forging greater understanding and friendship with Bangladesh in all fields of importance.
The High Commissioner stressed the need for increasing trade and commercial interaction between Pakistan and Bangladesh. He pointed out that in the recent period, trade has more than doubled from $ 477 million to $ 1 billion.
High Commissioner Afrasiab underlined that people to people contact was important. In this respect, he referred to the visit of the Bangladeshi students’ delegation to Pakistan in June 2012. In addition, around 20 Bangladeshi journalists also visited Pakistan. Other visits have also taken place between the two countries, including one by the delegation of National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, in May 2012. The address by the HC was followed by a question and answer session. Questions pertained to internal developments in Pakistan and Pakistan’s relations with important countries of the world.
