LAHORE – The Lahore Museum is finally all set to launch its official website (www.lahoremuseum.org) next month after uploading all important information related to its history and collection, officials told TheNation.

The officials told this scribe that they were working on the website since past one year. “It will be a state-of-the art website having all important information regarding collection of the museum, as well as guidance for tourists. It will also have a section on history of Lahore Museum and City Heritage Museum, along with five boxes having rotating 3-D images of 50 famous artefacts in the museum,” said one of the officials.

He further informed that the website, which is being developed by a private company, would cost roughly Rs500,000. “Another salient feature of the website is that it will have a live query window with an official deputed to answer the online questions of the visitors,” he added.

Lahore Museum Deputy Director Admin Khawaja Khurshid, who is also a member of the Website Development Committee, said the museum’s library would also be linked with the website; and the complete collection of rare books and research journals would be available online.

“The museum’s library has more than 35,000 rare books on different subjects and people could benefit online from these books with the launch of the website. With this in view, the library staff has been scanning the rare books from almost one year,” Khurshid maintained.

He said a virtual recorded tour of the Lahore Museum and sight map would also be uploaded on the website to facilitate the visitors, especially foreigners. “The website will also have an online shop to sell replicas of the available artefacts. Besides this, information about the museum staff with their e-mail addresses and phone numbers will be available on the website. Forthcoming activities of the museum will also be included,” Khurshid concluded.
