QUETTA - A complete shutter-down strike was observed in the provincial capital Quetta and some other districts of Balochistan on Sunday against the kidnapping of a senior psychiatrist Dr Ghulam Rasool Kakar.

Dr Ghulam Rasool was kidnapped in broad daylight from the Brewery Road of Quetta on Wednesday when he was on his way home after performing his duty in Bolan Medical Complex Hospital. The strike call was given by Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan chapter which was also supported by all political and religious parties, including business community.

In Quetta, all markets, shopping centers and business malls, located on Jinnah Road, Share-e-Iqbal, Liaquat Bazaar, Sariab Road, Double Road and others parts of the City remained closed throughout the day to express solidarity with the doctors.

The traffic plying on the roads was also very thin.

Shopping centers and markets in Mastung, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Zhob, Nushki, Kalat, Loralai, Ziarat and other districts also remained closed. Local administration had taken strict security steps across the province, including Quetta.

On the call of PMA Balochistan, the doctors did not attend the patients in government and private hospitals except in emergency wards that caused severe difficulties for the patients.
