ISLAMABAD - Utterly alarmed by the growing number of accidents in the federal capital, generally because of the menace of one-wheeling, higher authority of Islamabad traffic police reactivated special squad to curb practice of one-wheeling.

“Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has constituted special squads as part of their renewed efforts to curb practices of one-wheeling and underage driving, “spokesperson of Islamabad traffic police told journalists on Sunday.

“Following the directions of Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan, SSP (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood has directed to constitute special squads to check such practices of one wheeling which not only put the lives of violators in danger but also of other road users,” IP spokesperson Shamas further said.

According to the spokesperson, the squads will remain present on 7th Avenue, 9th Avenue, Benazir Bhutto Road, Kashmir Highway and other areas of the city to take action against speedsters who play stunt on roads.

The policemen of these squads performing in various zones will ensure special vigilance after `Iftari timings’ when youngsters come out from their homes and get involved in these stunts putting their lives on risk.

The SSP said that strict action would be taken against one -wheelers and car racers. He appealed the parents to ensure strict vigilance of their children and do not allow them to play stunt on the roads and risk their lives.

“Such steps by the ITP have the only purpose to ensure safe road environment for the citizens of Islamabad,” he said but termed the cooperation of the parents vital to stop such life-threatening stunts.

The SSP said that bike of one-wheelers would be impounded and heavy fine tickets will be delivered to them.

He directed the staffers to make this campaign further effective and said that no laxity will be tolerated in this regard.
