LAHORE – The General Cadre Doctors Association (GCDA) has demanded of the government to give status of a specialist to diploma-holders in different disciplines.

Chairing a meeting here on Sunday to review the proposals for service structure, GCDA President Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh said diploma-holders should be promoted to the level of senior registrars like in the past. He said earlier diploma-holders even reached the level of associate professors, but now they were not considered even for the slot of senior registrar.

Dr Sheikh said general cadre doctors who had completed FCPS or equivalent qualification should be appointed as senior registrars at the earliest. He said it was unfortunate that highly qualified doctors were forced to work as medical officers.
