ISLAMABAD - Top seed M Abid, second seed Yasir Khan, Faizan Khurram and Shahzad Khan squeezed into the Warid National Ranking Tennis Championship men's singles semifinals at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

Abid eliminated Sanaullah Khan of Peshawar by playing serve/volley game. He won the first set 6-3 by breaking the eighth game of Sanaullah. He kept the same pressure in the second set at 6-2. Unseeded Faizan of Lahore made another upset in the tournament when he beat the seventh seed Shahzad PAF in a three-set match. In the third quarterfinal, fourth seed Shahzad Khan beat M Mudassar in one-sided affair at 6-3, 6-2. In the last quarterfinal, Yasir of Karachi eliminated Ahmed Ch of Islamabad in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. He will face Shahzad in the semifinal whereas M Abid will face Faizan today (Wednesday) at 9:30am.

Unseeded Talha Zubair of Karachi made the major upset of the tournament when he eliminated the second seed Mudassair of Jehania in a well-contested two-set match 7-6, 6-3. In the second semifinal, top seed Syed Nofil Kaleem defeated Muzammil in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 by displaying quality tennis.

Top seed Huzaifa Abdul Rehman will face Sahibzada M Ali in the final of boys U-14 event. In the first semifinal, Huzaifa beat Nouman Aftab from Karachi 6-1, 6-4 while in the second semifinal, Sahibzada M Ali eliminated Bilal Imran 6-1, 6-3.
