Police are allegedly using a “free hand” and arresting the minor children for flying kites as the police have arrested minor children, even the students of fourth, fifth and sixth classes for accusation of kite-flying in the crackdown.

Sialkot police’s ongoing vigorous anti kite-flying crackdown is underway in Sialkot district. Most of the arrested accused are between the ages of ten to thirteen years. These children have not yet reached the age of getting the CNICs.

The parents and the grieved families of these minor children cried out against the Sialkot police. They were of the view that the police should call the parents of these arrested children and release them. The police implicated the minor children into the cases by registering FIRs against them.

Local social, political and religious circles have strongly protested against the alleged. They said that police have arrested several minor children for kite-flying. They saw the police in action on College Road, when police forcibly snatched a minor child from his old grandfather and two other brothers from their motorcycle, as the child was carrying a kite in his hands.

The police took the accused to Daska City police station and sent him behind the bars after registering a case against him.

Later, the local magisterial court bailed the accused child out in this case. The local magisterial courts bailed out several minor accused children. Sialkot police have yet arrested more than 400 people including the several minor children registering  separate cases against them in all the 29 police stations of Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils. Police have also seized more than 4,000 kites and hundreds of the string as well.

When contacted, some police officials, requesting anonymity, said that the massive crackdown against the kite-flyers and kite-lovers was being carried out in Sialkot district by the orders of Sialkot District Police Officer Muhammad Gohar Nafees.
