LAHORE - Election Tribunal on Tuesday set aside election results of 33 polling stations in PP-97, Gujranwala, with directions to Election Commission for re-election in the said polling stations within the stipulated time.

Election Tribunal comprising Justice Kazim Malik placed this order after the alleged rigging was established in PP-97.

Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) leader Nasir Cheema had filed an application challenging the election of PML-N candidate Ashraf Warraich.

The complainant told the tribunal that Warraich was elected through an open rigging. He stated that such person was not eligible to hold public office.

He requested the tribunal to set aside election results in PP-97 and direct the Election Commission for re-elections.

Ashraf Warraich, the respondent, opposed his arguments rejecting all allegations levelled against him.

However, the judge had constituted a Commission to investigate the alleged rigging which on Tuesday submitted its final report according to which the rigging was done in the constituency concerned.

After the report of the Commission, the Election Tribunal set aside the election results in PP-97 and directed Election Commission to hold re-election there within the stipulated time.
