ISLAMABAD - On the advice of prime minister, President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday approved appointment of the senior most judge of the Supreme Court Justice Jawad S Khawaja as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Appointment of Justice Jawad S Khawaja will take effect on August 17, 2015 after superannuation of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nasirul Mulk on August 16 when he will be 65 years of age.

The president approved the prime minister’s advice on a summary initiated by Law, Justice and Human Rights Division.

A press release issued in this respect from the president’s office here reads, “On a summary initiated by Law, Justice and Human Rights Division, the president has approved the prime minister’s advice for appointment of senior most judge of the Supreme Court Justice Jawad S Khawaja as Chief Justice of Pakistan wef 17th August, 2015 after superannuation of Justice Nasirul Mulk, Chief Justice of Pakistan, on attaining the age of 65 years on 16th August”.
