Islamabad - Senator Nisar Muhammad on Wednesday walked out of the joint committee meeting of Senate and National Assembly over the delay in the construction of Takht Bhai Bridge, as the contract for the project is awarded to the construction company owned by MNA Malik Riaz.

According to details, Senator Nisar expressed his concerns over the delay in the construction of the bridge. He told the committee that Senate Standing Committee on Communication had visited the site of the bridge and had directed the contractor to complete it as soon as possible.

He said that the construction work of the project could not gain pace during the last 18 months. He was of the view that the contractor in connivance with the National Highway Authority was delaying the construction of the project which has raised the cost of the project. However, MNA Malik Riaz attempted to stop them from raising the issue in the meeting. Upon which, the senator walked out of the meeting with a warning that he will take the matter of delay to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In a clear reference to the MNA who is also the contractor, the senator said that he was not there to attend the meeting of contractors but of parliamentary committee, adding he takes it as a responsibility to state facts when it comes to the issues of national interest. It is to mention here that the company owned by MNA Malik Riaz is executing the project.
