ISLAMABAD - United Kingdom Secretary of State for Defence Michael Fallon in his day long visit on Wednesday assured Pakistan that the United Kingdom stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and extremism.”

In a statement he issued through the British High Commission, Fallon said that his visit is part of the United Kingdom’s commitment to deepen the strategic partnership with Pakistan across many important areas including bilateral defence ties. “The United Kingdom and Pakistan have a strong bond of friendship and the breadth and depth of the strategic partnership has only grown deeper over the period of time,” Fallon assured Pakistan authorities.

He said he had range of important meetings in Islamabad today with leaders and officials to discuss regional security issues and steps to deepen the defence relationship between the United Kingdom and Pakistan.

“The UK recognises huge sacrifices being made by the people and security personnel of Pakistan. Our two countries have an unwavering commitment to work together to combat the menace of terrorism and extremism which threatens the people of both countries,” he added.

During his visit, the UK Secretary of State for Defence had high-level meetings with Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Minister for Defence and Water & Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi.


British Secretary of State for Defence Rt. Hon Michael Fallon called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House Wednesday and discussed ways and means to strengthen the already cordial relations between the two states. “Matters pertaining to regional situation and bilateral matters were discussed during the meeting,” stated a press release issued by the PM House.

The prime minister congratulated the British Secretary on winning new elections by the Conservatives and asked him to communicate the same to British PM also. He said that there is a lot of scope in cooperation in the areas of trade, investment and education.

UK’s Secretary of State for Defence underlined the importance of bilateral relations with Pakistan and said that this relationship continues to deepen in the interest of both nations. The British Secretary also appreciated the role of Pakistani Diaspora in Britain.

Both sides agreed on cooperation between the two countries under the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue (ESD).
