LAHORE - Union representatives have urged the government to get amended the old labour laws especially Factories Act 1934 and Mines Act 1923, Boiler Act 1910 in conformity with ILO conventions and get them enforced through independent labour inspection machinery in accordance with ILO Convention No. 81 ratified by the Government of Pakistan. It also urged the government to introduce administrative reforms in the electricity distribution and generation companies instead of privatizing them.
These and others demands were raised in a unanimous resolution in a large meeting of trade union representatives and workers held at Bakhtiar Labour Hall here under the aegis of All Pakistan Workers Confederation on Wednesday. At this occasion, veteran trade union leader Khurshid Ahmed, general secretary of the Confederation, paid tribute to the martyrs of Freedom Movement and urged all political forces and working class to establish society based upon equality and fraternity, social democracy and social justice.
