LAHORE - Central Executive Committee of the PML-N is meeting in Lahore on Monday (today) to take stock of the current political situation in the country.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif will chair the meeting. All CEC members have been asked to ensure their presence in today’s meeting which is the first one after PML-N’s defeat in the July 25 elections.

Sources in the PML-N said that Monday’s big gathering has been convened to chalk out future strategy in view of the political situation at the centre and in the provinces. Members will also be taken into confidence over the decisions taken in the Opposition parties’ conference held last week in Islamabad, they said.

Today’s huddle is important in view of the fact that it has been called at a time when the PML-N has given up efforts to form its governments both at the centre and in Punjab. In the near future, the PML-N would be facing the most daunting challenge of keeping unity in its ranks and to play the role of an effective opposition by taking along other parties.

In the absence of Mian Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz, this will also come as a big test for PML-N’s new president Mian Shehbaz Sharif who will have to show his leadership qualities in a situation when his party is not in power after a long time.
