Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan said on Monday that he every decision he makes would be based on merit and in the best interest of the nation.

Addressing a gathering of the party’s MNAs-elect shortly after being unanimously elected as its nominee for the coveted post of the country’s prime minister, Imran said that he has been entrusted with the biggest responsibility.

The PTI chairman said that the first phase of his 22-year long political struggle has been capped with a victory. “The people don’t expect us to run the country in a traditional way,” he said, explaining that the party is viewed differently.

Imran said that he would introduce ‘PM-Question Hour’ in the parliament on the pattern of the United Kingdom, where he would answer to lawmakers’ questions every week. He said that ministers will also be made answerable to the parliament in real sense.

The PTI chief said that he will not make impossible demands from his party members. He urged the parliamentary party to adopt strict measures to save nation’s wealth, which will be spent on people’s welfare.

The cricketer-turned politician said that the people of Pakistan have rejected the two-party system again after the 1970s. He said that people have voted for change and they do not expect traditional politics from PTI. He said that the nation will be watching the party’s actions and respond accordingly. “People will not spare us if we turn to traditional politics,” the PTI chief said.

He urged the lawmakers to fulfill people’s expectations and “Allah Almighty will give you honor and respect.” He said that people want parliament to make laws for them and we will have to fulfill this through unity, coordination, and teamwork. “They expect from you to frame policies for them,” he said.

Imran Khan said that today, PTI is facing a very weak opposition on moral grounds as their ranks and files pursue contrary ideologies. A high-level huddle of the PTI parliamentary party was held at a local hotel in the federal capital.

Party vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi presented a resolution with regard to the nomination of Imran Khan as the premier which was unanimously endorsed by all participants. Afterwards, the MNAs-elect stood up and gave the party chief a round of applause on being elected unopposed as party nominee for the slot.
